The Sales Engineer/Sr. Project Developer manages, and coordinates all aspects of pre-construction and design for Turn-Key Design-Build Projects from concept to detailed design.
The Sales Engineer’s primary focus is to manage risk for the company during the early pre-construction phase and is responsible to ensure project alignment with customer expectations and needs, and problem solve unique solutions for dairy, poultry, and swine projects. The Sales Engineer also has a strong understanding of construction and operational costs and is responsible for conceptual budget and early price development.
The Sales Engineer is typically involved in multiple projects but may be assigned to a single large project when merited. In addition to having responsibility to set up the projects for success and stream-lined execution, they are also responsible for managing the relationships with the other team members across several offices. Also, they are ultimately responsible for the quality and timeliness of all estimating and design deliverables for assigned projects.
Problem solve customer’s needs and invest deeply in learning the customer’s livestock industry.
As needed, performs estimating tasks as necessary to develop budgetary numbers, cost models, and basic labor estimates.
Coordinate and manage technical design review internally and externally.
Set-up contracts and drive margin to the bottom line through well-defined clarity to the field team taking into account and mitigating against design risk and constructibility risk.
Facilitates and troubleshoots problem solving to develop complex systems and solutions to thoroughly understand and meet customer objectives and relay to the design team through effective communication.
Have ability to operate in high level problem solving and facility planning space
Drive various project review and stakeholder management meetings for the pre-construction phase of design-build construction projects.
Drive continuous improvement and value engineering process by leveraging technical skills, internal resources, and key external sub-consultant and subcontractor relationships.
Facilitate internal and external scope, cost, and schedule review between all stakeholders
Drive scope development and detailed documentation from concept to contract signature.
Drive early buy-out process for key scopes and sub-contractors requiring long-lead or closure in pre-construction phase
Engage preferred sub-contractors and cultivate relationships
Assists in developing departmental plans, goals, objectives, policies and procedures.

Drafting, Design Engineering and Project Engineering staff functionally report directly to this position during front-end phase of work.
Oversight of management of projects includes directing project related activities of the project team members as necessary.
Work Environment: This job generally operates in office and occasionally travel for client meetings is required. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This position is full time with some weekend work.
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some projects may require more out-of-the-area and overnight travel.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering.
At least four years of experience in pre-construction, engineering, or design; or graduation from an accredited university with a degree in construction, engineering, or related field and two years of progressively responsible experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
