Erecting a post-frame building (pole barn) isn’t as easy as it may look. We’ll be glad to sell you a material package, but to avoid possible frustration, please consider the following before opting to not use FBi’s skilled construction labor:
If building it yourself
- Have you built post-frame buildings before? This construction method is very different from residential, stud wall construction.
- How will you drill your postholes and set the posts? For a fee, FBi can do this for you. Call us to learn more.
- Do you have an adequate number of trained helpers/employees? You’ll need a crew of at least three people for work to go smoothly.
- Do you have enough available free time to dedicate to building? Depending on the size of your building, it could take several weeks.
- How will you hang the trusses?
- Do you know how to properly chain and brace the framing during construction?
- Do you have or can you conveniently get the necessary equipment (Gradalls, Lifts, Cranes, Augurs, etc.)?
If using a local contractor
- Is the contactor licensed and bonded to perform the work?
- How many post-frame buildings has he built – and of what size and complexity?
- How long has he been in business?
- Will he be able to service your building 5 years from now? 10 years from now?
- Does he have dedicated crews or employees who handle repairs and warranty work?
- Does he offer a written workmanship and materials warranty?
- Who backs the materials warranty? Will you have to deal with each manufacturer?
- What is his safety program? Do his workers use fall protection devices?
- Does the contractor have the necessary equipment (Gradalls, Lifts, Cranes, Augurs, etc.)?
- If you have a critical deadline, can the contractor guarantee to have your project completed in time – or agree to pay a penalty?
