National Frame Builders Association Names Burl Daniels Crew Foreman of the Month

FBi's Daniels is a 'quiet giant'

Reducing employee turnover and improving the safety culture have been two of the highest priorities at FBi Buildings over the past few years. The foremen at FBi Buildings have more influence than anyone in these two areas.

Consistently the top performer in both safety and turnover is Burl Daniels, January’s Crew Foreman of the Month. Burl began his employment with FBi in September of 1986 as a crewman and was promoted to crew foreman in July 1991. He has served exceptionally ever since. Burl is a very quiet and reserved individual but continues to be one of the best leaders FBi has in the field. He is the quiet giant.

Each year FBi presents awards to high performing crews in three separate areas; gold and silver builder of excellence, quality, and safety. Burl and his crew have been the recipients of each of these awards several times over the years.

Additionally, no safety violations have been issued for 13 months. For most this would seem an impossible feat but for Burl it has become a way of life. Burl and his crew have not only set the standard for safety at FBi Buildings but for the entire NFBA. He is truly a model foreman when it comes to safety and has assured his crew a safe place to work.

“The Way of the Shepherd” by Kevin Leman and William Pentak states that to be an effective shepherd or leader you must know the condition of your flock. Burl leads his team with this philosophy by getting to know his men and being available for questions and problems. He has built trust with his team by modeling authenticity, integrity, and compassion. It is obvious his leadership style works because turnover on this crew has been only one man in the past 3-1/2 years. Not only is this remarkable by FBi standards but also is virtually unheard of in our industry.

Burl’s leadership and commitment to safety for his men continues to be a tremendous contribution to FBi.
